Installing the Photo Plate
• Peel off the adhesive backing on the photo plate
• Align it with the opening inside the shell
• Gently press to attach — no tools required
The difference between this and a regular photo
This is not a regular planar photo.
Each image is created as a lithophane — a 3D photo formed by varying material thickness, not ink.
The image appears only when illuminated, creating a depth and clarity a regular photo cannot achieve.
The Science Behind the Light
A lithophane is a 3D image created by varying material thickness — not color or ink.
Although the plate appears pure white, your photo is revealed when light passes through it.
- Brighter areas of your photo are printed thinner, allowing more light through
- Darker areas are printed thicker, blocking more light
- When illuminated, these subtle thickness differences form a detailed image
